Emerging Scholars Prize

The Czechoslovak Studies Association is pleased to announce the Emerging Scholars Essay Prize. This prize will be awarded to the author of a distinguished article, essay, or chapter on a topic related to the history and culture of Czechoslovakia, its predecessor and successor states, and its peoples. Papers that place these topics in a comparative or transnational context are welcome. Submissions should be an essay, journal article, book chapter, or chapter of a recently completed dissertation or master’s thesis from 2021, 2022, or 2023 (they may not also be submitted for the Pech Prize).

They must be no more than 10,000 words in length inclusive of references/footnotes, and written originally in English. Dissertation or thesis chapters can be edited to meet the maximum word count. Applicants must be current Ph.D. students or have earned a Ph.D. or master’s degree in or after 2020. The competition will be open to members and non-members of the CSA, and the prize committee will not be provided information about an applicant’s membership status. We encourage non-members, however, to see this as an opportunity to join the CSA. Please use this page to apply for membership. If you are uncertain about your membership status, please contact CSA Treasurer Thomas Ort at thomas.ort@qc.cuny.edu.

Email submissions by June 20, 2024 to prize committee chair, Tatjana Lichtenstein, at lichtens@austin.utexas.edu.

Prize value: $200
